If you have to ask why Kai is the Kilauea CrossFit “A.O.T.M.” then you probably havent met her or worked out with her and seen her constant infectious smile. Kaiulani Palumbo comes in for a CrossFit workout a lot. That’s when she is not talking about CrossFit. She tells everyone that will listen how fun and rewarding CrossFit is. In fact she has done our 6 class foundations course through at least 3 or 4 times because she is always bringing in friends to try it out. As you might know she also was doing bootcamp in Kapaa. If you look above our pull-up rig in the gym you will see her boot camp shirt which we agreed to put up there as a reminder to stay true to #thekilaueaway . Kai wasn’t the first person in her family to do CrossFit. Her mother-in-law Patrice was the first to workout in Kapaa. Then Jesse, Kai’s husband started coming. Now it’s a full family affair! Kai has been at it about 6 months and it the hard work is really paying off!
I texted Kai a few questions. Here are her responses. Her emoticons are in (parentheses)
Me: “What is it you like/love about CrossFit/Kilauea CrossFit?”
Kai: “It feels like family. (girl & heart) Everyone is so encouraging. (thumbs up) Its close to home and with morning classes there is always time to fit it in my busy schedule”
Me: ” How much Weight have you lost and how much has CrossFit attributed to that?”
Kai: “Since I joined in December 2013 I have lost over 50 Pounds! I do practice clean eating but I don’t believe I could have done it without CrossFit! I have never felt more strong or capable! I am constantly challenged every workout and continue to push myself outside of my comfort zone with exercise like the Haena to Hanalei 8 mile run.”
Kai: “Everyone is awesome at Kilauea CrossFit!” After doing a calorie row it puts perspective to your calorie intake. (winking smiley face with tongue sticking out)”
Me: “Outside of being able to do better at WODS and losing weight, how would you say that CrossFit has changed you? If It has.”
Kai: “It Has! I feel Like its made me fitness fun for me, it gives me a WOD to look forward to and that previous confidence that I was speaking of! Its such a super feeling that I want to share it with everyone!”
Me: And you do!! Thanks for being in our family and spreading the word so much!
The next day she texted me this…
“I would also like to add that I drink SFH shakes after I WOD and I feel its helped me to meet my nutritional needs!”
